The successful candidate will work with the 633d Communications Squadron (633 CS) at Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE), Virginia. JBLE is implementing a new enterprise network architecture, a host of new hardware and software upgrades and new capabilities. This is driving increasing complexity of and reliance on the network requiring a specialized network engineer on-site for stability and continuity of service. Principle activities include specialized network engineering services to support the installation, sustainment and optimization (including both effectiveness and efficiency in terms of stability, performance and security) of network hardware and software employed throughout JBLE in support of Air Force-specific and base-level network capabilities. Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. The candidate shall provide assistance and oversight for on-site systems architecture, analysis, design, and engineering support services for unclassified and classified JBLE communications networks with respect to the following: routing and switching; security; IP voice, video, and collaboration; IP quality of service; capacity and continuity planning, performance, problem and change management; and the integration and co-existence of these technology categories. The candidate shall provide assistance to include, but not limited to, encryption strategies; system monitoring; load balancing; and enhanced network performance with applicable patches and upgrades. The candidate shall advise personnel within 633 CS on current and planned projects (involving technologies, methodologies, tools, etc.) to improve network optimization. Support may include reviewing design requirements, priorities, and goals; analyzing impacts of new requirements on the existing network; reviewing network architecture/topology; protocol selection/configuration; feature selections/configurations; and security considerations. The candidate shall also monitor and respond to hardware, software, and network problems-which may require work on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. The candidate shall provide the Contracts manager written deliverables reporting on tasks and results. The candidate shall troubleshoot network hardware, software, firmware and configuration issues, and document findings in a Network Health Assessment Report. The candidate shall provide network change support for hardware, software, firmware or configuration events that may involve evaluating the potential impact of proposed change requests, implementation procedures, technical solutions, project plans and project support agreements. The candidate shall provide a Network Change Impact Report. The candidate shall implement and integrate technical requirements and design goals into the overall network design. The candidate shall prepare project implementation documentation to include requirements documents, technical solutions, project plans and project support agreements and change requests. The candidate shall provide performance engineering and optimization analysis to sustain a high-performance network and meet the changing demands on the network. The candidate shall provide analysis of network configurations against industry best practices. The candidate shall provide a Performance Engineering and Optimization Report. The candidate shall provide training and guidance on internetworking product and technology topics. This may include providing white papers, design guides, case studies, configuration guides, troubleshooting guides, deployment guides and training documents. The candidate shall attend, conduct, and participate in meetings, briefings, conferences and teleconferences convened at the direction of the Government as appropriate and submit a written summary of key information, actions, and contacts. Education: The candidate must have a relevant 4 year college degree or an additional 4 years of work related experience with at least 4-8 years total technical experience.
